REPUBLICAN EDUCATION PROPOSAL PROVIDES MOST FAIR AND EQUITABLE PLAN FOR SCHOOL FUNDING IN ILLINOIS

Schools in the 41st District, and throughout Illinois, would see unparalleled gains under a compromise school funding reform proposal introduced by Republican lawmakers, a measure that would both overhaul Illinois’ current broken funding formula, as well as provide relief to Illinois schools.

“Our students are the greatest investment we can make in ensuring a brighter future,” said State Senator Christine Radogno (R-Lemont).  “It is vital we ensure they have every resource available to receive a quality education.  This proposal does just that by treating every school district equitably and fairly.”

Senate Bill 1124 Senate Amendment 3 relies on an evidence-based model that provides for low-income students while ensuring that all 852 school districts across the state receive more state funding than they would under any other education proposal being considered, including Democrat-backed Senate Bill 1.

While Senate Bill 1124 includes several components of bipartisan agreement, the one area where this legislation differs from Senate Bill 1 is how Chicago Public Schools are treated. Whereas Senate Bill 1 funnels hundreds of millions of dollars toward just the one district, Senate Bill 1124 treats all districts equally and rejects the cycle of CPS bailouts.

Radogno is joining her Republican colleagues in calling for a committee hearing on Senate Bill 1124 Amendment 3.
